How does the the 340 hp do in the mountains. Am I going to have to disconnect my toad (2010 Jeep wrangler) to climb.

I'm sure the 340 Cummins will do just fine. Haven't seen any complaints and there are plenty of people pulling heavier toads with less power. Are you going to go up hill at 65 mph? No. But even on fairly steep grades you will be able to pull without being embarrassed.

I am a bit confused by your post. All the 2008 Diplomats I have seen have a 400 HP in them. What model do you have? If it's the 400 ISL, it has more than enough power to handle the mountains with toad attached.

Our Time,
I never looked past the 340hp to see it was a Dip. I'm sure there hasn't been one within the last few years that hasn't had a 400 ISL in it. My miss...good catch.
Jhalldiver: If you have a Diplomat then Our Time is correct and you have a 400.

Diplomat Engine size
Guys the 400 engine size is good to hear. I am getting ready to work with a dealer and he has the 2008 dip listed with a 340 hp motor. Sounds like the listing is wrong. I wll double check. Thanks

It will be the Cummins ISL, 8.9 liter, 400 hp engine. As far as I know it has been the standard engine for Diplomats and Endeavors since 2005. At some point I think the hp was changed to 425 but not sure when.

I have 2008 Diplomat 36PDQ 4 slides with the 400ISL with a 2004 Jeep in tow and I have been in some mountainous terrain to include Alaska, and never had a power problem. The power to weigh ratio on my unit is great and in my opinion is the important factor. The only improvement you may want to work in your deal is a Horton fan clutch which I believe helps on the fuel mileage and provided more usable power to the wheels.

Keep the dealer thinking it has a 340 horse engine and let them think that it may be a deal breaker.
