2008 HR Admiral sound system

I bought a 2008 holiday Rambler Admiral 35ft about a year ago. I've been trying to figure out how to get the sound to come over all the speakers in the ceiling when playing TV or DVD. The radio plays fine over these speakers. I have read all the manuals I have, and nothing explains how to do this. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated. the motorhome came with a SHARP tv.Thank-you.

Your later model may be totally different, but on my 2002 Windsor the ceiling speakers are strictly for the radio. The surround sound system, which includes the DVD/CD player, has surface mount speakers.

hrnest08,
I am not sure if your 08 HR is the same as my 07 Diplomat, but my coach has a separate 12v suround sound amplifier. There is also a ParkRiver speaker switch box that sends the output of the TV, DVD through the surround sound amp depending on the position of a selector switch in the AV cabinet. This configuration has been noted for background noise when running on inverter power, so Monaco installed a bunch of ground loop isolators and power line filters to get rid of the noise. On some coaches, they also installed a relay-controlled 12v converter to power the surround sound amp - like sort of a big heavy filter. None of these fixes solved the background noise.
I am telling you this because when working on my system, I encountered a rats nest of wires that did not match the OEM schematic. Apparently, Monaco built up a patch harness for the installation of the converter, relay and switching changes. One thing I noticed was that my speaker switch was not wired correctly and did not actually send the surround sound output to the speakers. The only way I could get TV sound was through the dash radio and that wouldn't give me the center speaker. I also encountered several speaker wires that had been frayed and pulled loose from the connectors on the amp. I wound up completely rewiring my system to take out the converter, replace the radio with a Kenwood DVD/Nav receiver, and eliminate much of the rats nest. It now works correctly although I still have a small amount of background hum when running on inverter power. But it is much less than before. I'm still working on getting rid of that last bit of hum.
So, if you have a similar setup, I would advise you to check to make sure your speaker switcher is actually wired correctly, working, and that your speaker wires are all securely connected to the amp terminals. If you decide to do any rewiring and want to make up any harnesses that use the same type of AMP multi-pin connector, I can send you the part numbers for the connector shells and pins and you can order them from Mouser.

Good luck troubleshooting the rats nest without a good diagram. If I can provide any other info that will help you, don't hesitate to ask.

Roy
