2008 r4rr drag link torque

The dust seal on my drag link tore. I have a replacement boot to install, but I am not having any luck finding the correct ball joint stud torque. In several posts on this forum they are listed as from 46ft-lbs to 300ft-lbs. Too important to guess within that wide range. My rig is:

2008 Monaco Cayman 37PDQ
Front drag link is original part
The stud diameter is 1-1/4”

I would really appreciate some guidance.

The nut is 1 1/4" or the actual stud? That big of bolt would torque to well over 600 ft lbs up to 2200 ft lbs.

I have not removed the nut to measure. 1-1/4” is the top of the tapered stud. Because it’s a tapered stud, normal straight bolt torques do not apply.

You might call NAPA and see if they had the spec''s

I did find a NHSTA bulletin for buses, it said 160-300 ft lbs. Found a Freightliner spec that said 165.

Thank you.

I went in the middle, so 230ftlb + an eighth turn to align the cotter. The exact factory torque will continue to remain unknown, LOL.

It was not identical to the OEM, but it is the proper size and works as it should:

Ross Gear Boot | L24VC0109

Here is where I ordered it...it's a Peterbuilt part:

Oh...by the way. I have many pullers, but nothing that would work on removing the ball link stud. Many posts said they removed it by hammering on the steering arm. That did not work for me. What did work, very easily, was to take one large hammer and rest it on one side of the steering arm, I then took another large hammer and moderately whacked the side opposite where the first hammer was touching. In other words, you whack the stud on one side while backing the opposite side. It dropped in 1 hit, whereas I whacked a while on the end of the arm to no avail. This is a method actually specified in the old high school auto repair books.
