2009 monaco dynasty Headlights wont turn on ( switch light is dead)

Hello I have a 2009 monaco dynasty and my headlights recently quit working altogether. The control board where the headlight switch is located is completely dead, along with the steering column control displays. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most greatful. Im thinking maybe a fuse or relay is bad, but for the life of me i cannot locate a diagram or schematic layout for all of the fuses and relays.

Do you have a VIP smartwheel with buttons on the steering wheel for light and windshield wipers?

How long have you owned this coach?
We're trying to determine if you have a VIP Smartwheel or a Kongsberg multiplex system.

Can you post a picture of the front electrical bay (compartment outside just under the drivers feet).

The steering wheel looks like a VIP type, here's a link to verify.

Here is a link to troubleshooing guide, you will have to determine which controller you have.

Does the wipers work using the button on the steering wheel.

If it doesn't you may have a clock spring problem.

Hey Jim, thanks for the good information. Maybe you can help me with my issue. I have an intermittent problem with both wipers and cruise control. Using the buttons on my wheel (shown above) the cruise sometimes fails to work. Then minutes later will work. Recently I turned on the wipers and they wouldn’t turn off, but then after several minutes and several pushes on the button they did.

My first suggestion would be to find the VIP controller and unplug each of the wiring harnesses and plug back in. My VIP controller is under the dash, I can access it by removing the small dash panel the has the radio mounted in it, not sure on your dash and access.
Other thing to check would be the harness on the side of the steering column, make sure it has a good connection. You will probably have to remove the plastic shroud around the the base of the column.

While you have the shroud off take the time to grease the universal joint on the steering column. If your ambitious there is another Ujoint above the steering box. These zerks don't get greased all the time.

RE:Reply... checking harnesses

No the wipers dont work either, each button has stopped working along with the backlight that illuminates the buttons. Im definitely going to check the plug hanesses as suggested, but i was also wondering if anyone knew anything about the couple of fuse and relay bays. Normally the owners manual has a fuse diagram with a list of each fuse/relay and its location. But I've been through the manual over and over and its got very vague information on the subject. Maybe theres a webpage with a schematic or something.... thanks for all the replies I really appreciate the help...

You will have to find a wiring schematic for your coach. Check in the files section on IRV2
You should also consider joining the Monacoers.org site, there is a bunch of knowledgeable people there and they have a pretty large data base of manuals and wiring schematics in the downloads section. Monacoers.org

Suggest you follow the troubleshooting recommendations for your steering wheel on the link I provided. Your problem could be the Smartwheel control module, wiring harness issue, or the clockspring which is under the center portion of the steering wheel. The clockspring is the most common failure and if you are a DYIer can be replace, a new one is ~$3-400. Here is a link to a source, you can verify which one you have there.

Generator Fault...

The high beams work but not the low beams. Right before the headlights stopped working the "Generator Fault" light went off... Ive heard issues with relays, fuses, or a J12 connector. I will definitely check the harnesses and the clock spring...

If you have a smart wheel you will need to pull the steering wheel and the clock spring is in the center of it. There are Allen heads screws on the bottom side of your steering wheel panels remove those and you can take the center large button off. You will also need a puller to remove the The steering wheel after you remove the hold down.
