Ditto: I asked the Monaco Rep at the Pomona RV show this year to explain where the back design came from and he told me that it is designed for maximum cooling for the Navistar engine. Humm? it is ugly in my opinion. I can live with the front.

Actually that rep may be correct. The Maxforce uses EGR instead of a DPF. They run very hot. Not a problem in a front engined truck but maybe a problem in a rear engine MH.

moisheh, As you already know both engines use EGR however MaxxForce's technology feature is AEGR or Advanced EGR.

The cool pack is appropriately designed and sized for the 43DFT (all) because the vehicle is completely vertically integrated by Navistar. In RDP applications, cooling is not a problem.

To the best of my knowledge, the cool pack has a radiator, charge cooler, transmission cooler, oil cooler and an intercooler.

Just discovered this model while looking at a Vesta. Had been looking at Thor models and found some complaints so started checking out Monaco's and came across the new2012 Knight. My wife and I both love it. So nice to see something out of the cookie cutter syndrome. What we wish is that they would have carried the new styling inside and completed the package with the Europen style cabinety. To us, that would have made a complete package. Guess one step at a time. Just my two cents but love it and this would be our choice, of course after test driving and so forth, guess that is why they make so many different models.

Thank You DriVer,
I really like the looks of the Holiday Rambler. It had a real tTruck-like appearance, and it will turn heads. I just bought a 2000 HR Endeavor back in October. It's our first
RV, and I could not be more impressed with it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the appearance. It looks like so many other on the road, and it's just boring, I wish I could do something to dress it up.

Sorry for rambling on, but if I had the $ I would get a new one in a flash. Not only are they distinct looking with very aggressive styling, but after the bankruptcy debacle, (which I feel like many others, they handled poorly) I feel they will be bending over backward, to reach out and really have satisfied owners.

With the cost of materials going up (oil needed to manufacture) the price of motorhomes will continue to rise. With less competition and more government regulations and taxes TODAY would be the best time to buy a new one. Otherwise the BEST buys today are used ones as most owners cannot afford to spend $5.00 every few miles traveling down the road. deSanford

FRONT IS DIFFERENT BUT LIKE IT ENOUGH TO BUY ONE !! WE OWNED A MONACO HOLIDAY ENDEAVOR 36FT. 330 HP CUMMINGS RAN GREAT !! AVERAGED 7.5 TO JUST OVER 8 MPG. BUT GETTING BACK TO THE 2012 KNIGHT AND THAT DIFFERENT LOOKING FRONT AND BACK BODY STYLE,YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HOW SURPRISED I WAS WHEN WE TOOK OUR FIRST TRIP TO MYRTLE BEACH, WITH UNDER 4,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE. THE TRIP READ-OUT SHOWED 9.7 MPG FOR A COACH 4,000 LB.HEAVIER 5FT. LONGER AND ONLY 20 MORE HP. DO YOU THINK THE FRONT END HAD ANYTHING TO WITH THE FUEL MILEAGE!!!!!!!! buy the way that was going though the mountains of PA.& VIRGINA .doing a little more than the speed limit (well a lot more) ps; front & back look GREAT!!!!

Navistar took the new body styles they engineered and wind tunnel tested them. I'm not sure how a wind tunnel test on such a huge frontal area would make a huge difference however if owner accolades continue like this, there might just be something to it.

Then again in 5 years from the looks of the posts here not that many of the new style will have been sold so ours will still be in style. I really don't think I would buy one.

Driver, Taking a 3 foot model and putting it in a makeshift wind tunnel only represents a effort in advertising nothing more. Lipstick on a brick is still a brick.

Monaco hired Larry Shinoda Design (famous for Corvette and Mustang designs) to develop the front and rear caps used from the late 90's into the mid 2000's. That was money well spent and a good example for the new Monaco/Navistar.

Larry Shinoda R.I.P passed in 1997. To think that his legacy of design had anything to do with Navistars present day look would be doing Larry a injustice at best.
