5.9L Cummins mystery
ok, we bought a nice LaPalma XL Diesel. we love it.
It's like the sports car of diesel pushers. ..
in looking at the motor, it looks like a 6.7, but valve cover clearly states 5.9L,,, so I would describe it as a 5.9 dressed as a 6.7.. so in searching info, most 5.9 info is Dodge Cummins 5.9 and they didn't start using 6.7 until 2008 .all the info I found said 2008 is 6.7L..My rig is 2008, but motor mfg 2006.. it looks to have EGR cooler and cross over pipe, as well as a variable turbo as 6.7.... here is the key: it is a Freightliner 5.9, not a Dodge 5.9... Apparently, big over the road Freightliner tractors used the 5.9L with variable turbo at least 2 years before Dodge moved to 6.7 . so now when looking for info I use Freightliner 5.9L NOT Dodge... hope this helps someone else.

yes, it's a Cummins 5.9......
however, ones used in BIG trucks is different , or has different "stuff" on it. so if you buy a turbo for a dodge 5.9, it may be different than the one used on freightliner 5.9L... so yea, it's a cummins....
It makes it difficult to find a replacement 2006 VGT if you ask for a dodge . dodge never put them on 5.9l. however freightliner did.... and that's the point of the point of this post. :-)

All you need is Cummins ESN and you can get the correct parts for your engine.

In your post with the picture of the engine data decal, look at the top right of it, it list the CPL (cummins parts list) that identifies what parts where used to build this engine. Along with the ESN (engine serial number) it is used to look up parts.

You can also open a Cummins Quick serve account. (free) Enter your engine serial number and get all of the info you want.
