50 amp power cord always wet

I have owned this 2000 Monaco Dynasty since January. When we bought the rig I had noticed that if I looked into the power box that the cord was frozen in place. The seller said that it had been washed improperly and that water had gotten into the box. I accepted this explanation and assumed that the box wood drain in the spring and the cord would be dry after that. But, instead, I notice that everytime I extend the cord that it is wet. I anticipate that this will start causing me a problem in colder weather. I have looked around the area but not taken anything apart. My thought is that the cable storage area probably has drain holes to drain out any collected moisture. And, they may be plugged. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Where is the cord box located on the coach? Mine is at the left rear corner and is accessable thru the bedroom closet floor. Also I can see the box in the engine compartment, left side about chest high. I can see the bottom of mine and there are no drains.

I would see if I could get into that box.. It may be just as the owner said and all you need do is drill a drain hole in the bottom of the box.. Two ways to do this, I like to drill down.

But if all else fails, Pull the cord out all the way and drill UP... Once you have drilled up get a PVC Flange (Or metal if that's all you can get) put a short nipple on it and a spitter (Basically a piece of bicycle tube a couple 4 inches long) on it.

For heaven sakes - why not get some old towels or something and dry that bay out so you can determine if that is old water or a slow leak.. You may have a slow leak, as I did. The electrical bay always had a little water in the bottom and the drip into it was so slow I never saw where the water was coming from. Turned out I had a slow leak in some kitchen plumbing above and near where this electrical cord bay was located. Leak fixed... and bay is now dry. Could be your problem too, maybe.

I agree with Ed. It's all well and good to put a drain in the compartment, but before doing that, I would want to know the hows and whys of the water getting in there in the first place. Until I knew how the water was getting in there, and whether it was a real problem or not, I'd be concerned that installing a drain is only masking the problem, not fixing it.

I can think of several ways the water could get in -- road spray kicked up by the tires, a leaking compartment door seal, a plumbing leak, or a roof/wall/slide/window body leak. Some have more dire consequences than others, but any of them could be a problem. Water and electricity don't play well together, and I wouldn't think water getting into an electrical compartment would be a good idea.

Update

Thank you all for responding. I was able to get a good look at it and it mimics Ron's description. I do not see ANY way that I can get at this. It is a sealed black box and I do not see any access from the engine compartment, bedroom or underneath. The previous owner blamed the water on the RV dealer that always gave the unit a good wash everytime they visited. It may be just that. As far as reaching in and mopping it dry... the only access is through a 5x5 opening and then a 3x4 opening that is 6 inches inside the coach. Not enough room for a hand to get in it. I may rig up a blower on my air compressor and see if I can dry it out that way. Again, thank you for all your help. If I find out anything new I will will post it.
