95 Dynasty-Stuck Storage Door Latch

One of the smaller, under carriage, storage door latches is stuck on one side. I cannot come up with a way to open without tearing things up. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don The doors have a little bit of wiggle room side to side. Try carefully moving the stuck side to the left or right. I also have a 95 Dynasty and have had the same problem.

Don,

If your jacks are down, retract them. Sometimes the chassis can be twisted enough to cause basement doors to bind when in the closed position.

Don, I just purchased a 1995 and I had the same problem. One one of my doors I had to crawl through from the other side and drill out the pop rivets on the inner cover and then manually pull the connecting rod to the catch. The rest I was able to have someone pull on the doors and on the side that would not open tapped it sideways with a block of wood being careful not to damage the paint. Once I got them all open I drilled out the pop rivets on all and adjusted the catch pull rods until the latch fully retracted. They now all work fine. I think over the years the metal in the rods stretched slightly not allowing the catches to fully retract.

I solved my problem recently when I had an RV body mechanic open the stuck door with a hook and pick set using the awl like device with a 90 degree bend that he maneuvered under the aluminum plate that the latch sits behind. Using the pick, he managed to push the latch towards the center of the door. My problem was I was letting the doors go, to close, with about 2-3 inches of travel left. This will eventually break the latches and the latch when broken and disconnected from the attachment mechanism does not respond to the handle being lifted. I bought replacement latches and ordered a hook and pick set from Amazon. In addition, I hold on to the door now until it is completely closed before I let the handle down. The RV mechanic told me he has opened at least three stuck cargo doors on a similar RV just the week before.
