A/C blows cold then hot then cold......

As you can tell by the title my front a/c (1 of three) blows cold for about 5 min then will turn to hot for about a minute then cold again.

Any help or suggestion's out there.

Is the compressor cycling on & off, or running the whole time?

If it is a heat pump it could be the reversing valve

How old is the unit....it may be hot flashes?

No seriously, what is the make and model of the unit. Is it actually blowing hot or is it simply not cooling and blowing the room air through?

1kingtut.....Like itdave stated, there is a small electric solenoid that slides over the reversing valve. If you have a heat pump, it naturally defaults to heat. When the reversing valve solenoid is going bad, it fails to hold the reversing valve in the A/C direction.

You can find the part at PPL Motors. You need to pull in the inside cover off and get the exact model number of your A/C unit. You look up the number on PPL and then they'll show a parts list for just that unit.

Thanks for the responses, sorry I haven't been posting responses but I'm on the road with the family and have had a bad run of it on this trip.
I will put the reversing thing on my growing list to fix or check when I get back to home base.
