Angry A little work for me.....

While up on my roof cleaning off the toppers and awning I noticed something I didn't want to see. My roof "rails"(where the roof rolls over to the sides) are cracked. This is not from construction, like tiffin's problems, but from jackasses that did repairs on the awning for the po.

I know this because the only places with the cracking is areas where repairs had taken place.(same thing over by the skylight, ) It seems the Dumb A's installed the awning incorrectly and had to re caulk it. (according to the documents I have) You can imagine the fine job they did and of course they used the correct sealant and stepped/knelt in the right places. (it's criminal what some of these places do, including many dealers)

I now have several dozen hairline thru cracks on the edges that need to be repaired. I'm thinking of using some thin fiberglass mat and resin. Then prepping and repainting. Some of the cracks are starting to grow so I think I need to do something more structural than just covering them up with paint.

Any thoughts?

BTW, I did look at the roof before purchasing, they looked like fine scratches, and given the other scratches on the coach I figured it was from branches. Now with changes in heat and driving they have moved slightly revealing their true identity!

Cracks need to be stop drilled before repair. Small 1/8 th or less at the end of each running crack, all the way through. Then check West Marine for how too's on FG repair. A little mat and resin, you'll be good to go.

Love those "techs" eh?

Good news! the cracks were not through, but only mostly through! I've repaired the PS side and primed. Once I get a free weekend, I'll get the paint and clear coat on it. I was going to have to do that anyway since the clear coat has failed.

As far as techs go, nope. No love for them or their managers. Personally when I approach a project I gather as much info as I can get. I'll ask a lot of questions, if I need to or reach out to people that have the answers. These days most management is, "get it done" whether you can or not. No oversight or checking of work. A lot of techs are ignorant and seem to not care about being educated on what they're doing. Based on the amount of incorrect sealant on many units I've looked at, including our own, they could care less, and the management, at whatever level, doesn't care either.

It's sad what this industry has turned into. I hope that some day it can grow up, though I doubt it will.....
