A Pleasant Surprise, I think
After having my 06 Endeavor for two plus years I noticed my house batteries were charging off the alternator. I dont know why or how since I do not have any add ons to do this. The green charge light is on from time to time and batteries seem to read good or better all the time. We will run with fans on for the dogs along with vent fans on. What should I look for???
Thanks
Ed

Ed,
You 06 Endeavor is designed to to charge the house batteries from the alternator while underway. What it will NOT do, without an add-on or a mod, is charge the engine batteries while plugged in to shore power. See here for more info.

JD,
Your house batteries should indeed charge when plugged into shore power. I'm not familiar with your coach, but most coachs have a charger/converter that performs that function. Sounds like you need to get that problem diagnosed.

Robin
I believe JD King that may have meant the chassis battery does not charge on shore power not the house battery.....maybe typo

no typo, the 4 house batts do not charge on shore power only when running from the alternator.
gonna pull the heart interface today and see if its putting out anything that could charge.

Could be. JD, if you meant "chassis batteries" weren't charging from shore power, then the addition of a Xantrex Echo~charge or a Trik-L-Start should resove that problem for you.

JD,
I had a Heart Freedom 10 charger/inverter in a 99 Discovery. Very good unit. Heart had great customer service, but not sure if that still exists now that Xantrex bought them out. Good luck in resolving the problem.
After it's fixed, I would highly recommend intalling one of these remote interface units. It tells you at a glance what the charger is doing and allows you to control the unit from inside your coach and access many of the charger/inverter functions. Hook-up is extremely easy - just plug in the phone wire that probably already goes to your house panel. More info here.

My Triple E has a bi-directional relay in it. When either battery is getting charged, the other battery will also charge if it needs it.
If, while charging, a sudden load appears on either battery, the relay disconnects from the "other" battery.
No matter where the charging current comes from, it will charge all batteries if it needs to.
