AC display is blank.

I have 2 Carrier Air V units. They work fine but the problem is in the hand held remotes for them. The display on both are almost completely blank. If I shine a light on them at certain angles I can barely read them. Is there a fix or solution short of replacing them? I have installed new batteries but that didn't help. Since Carrier is no longer in the RV AC business parts may be hard to find.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

The "contrast" on lcd's is set by a bias voltage.

There may be an adjustable pot inside of the handheld. Try splitting the case and look for something that has a short shaft or even a flush shaft with a slot in it. Try turning it one way or the other to see if it helps.

Problem solved. Put in some newer fresh batteries & both remotes working now. I guess these things are really sensitive to low voltage.
