Thanks. The tag inside the Genny area said 52 and we were being careful. My neighbor/mechanic was surprised about the amount and that it had not been recharged in 13 years. Appears that many cars don't make it that long.

The fact that you had cooling before you started shows the system wasn't empty. If the pressure was too low, the low pressure switch would have shut the compressor off. When you added 48 oz. of R-134a, did you use a manifold set that reads low and high pressures? If you overcharge it, it will reduce cooling as badly as if you didn't add enough.

Our input side pressure is right at 30 PSI and the high side pressure is at 175 PSI with an ambient temperature of 85 degrees with about 40% humidity. Used manifold gauges to determine the pressures.

Output temperature after running for 15 minutes at idle is 63 degrees.

For this ambient temperature, these pressures seem low. Your thoughts?

Wonder if we need more freon?

According to this chart:

At 85º you should have higher pressures, both low and high. You are still low on R-134a. Another possibility is you've got air in the system. That also can reduce cooling.

just some added info. Mine is probably similar to Jimbo's.

My pressure sw is a dual function switch...open if the pressure is low or too high.

It was leaking because I detected oil on the back of the switch. so I ordered a new one.

Since my system was old I opened the lines and found the desicant from the filter had blocked the lines. Cleaned everything up, pumped it down, and put in the Freon. Works great now!!

Added another can of 134, the pressure went up and the temperature at the vent went down too.

Going to stop where it's at since it is cooling 25 degrees below the ambient temperature and is running the correct pressures.

Thanks again!
