Adding Batteries

Looking into the option of adding batteries. I know one option is to move the starting battery to the engine compartment, and then installing a couple 6 volt in the tray above the other 6 volt batteries.

If you've done that, how did you mount the starting battery, anything to be concerned about doing that.

How do you wire in the addition 6 volt batteries. Any tricks?

That depends on the age of the batteries your adding to.

If they are a year or more old and well used, you may want to just run them full capacity, 100% to 10%, until they don't perform well, then replace all of them at once.

My 04 Dynasty had the two engines batteries on racks mounted to the channel that runs across the back. By lowering the rack for the 4 house batteries, I was able to add a second rack and 4 more batteries...well worth it. Paralleled the additional 4 12V to the bottom 4 12V.

When I went residential I added batteries on either side of the 2 engine batteries so there is plenty of room back there and plenty of structure to support them.

If the no load voltage of your current batteries after a day unhooked is within 0.1V of the new batteries I would not worry about mixing them.

Before doing anything I do a load test on the batteries, they are about 6 years old (although haven't been used much in the last 3 years) so it may be time to replace anyway.

The purpose of the addition of batteries is that I am getting ready to install a Samsung RF18 and want the extra capacity.

Looking at options and this seems like a viable option.
