Had 10 6v Trojan batteries on the trawler we lived on. Had "battery miser" caps. Won't put them on my RV. That's all I'll say. Put oil in batteries on boat. They were 8 years old when boat sold, and all tested great. Oil in RV batteries now, and working great.

and I was hoping to gather information as to the pro's and cons of most all the methods used to prevent battery cable/center corrosion issues.

Oh my Bill went there, I didn't say that! Lol. Bill that's the only thing I didn't see when at QZ! I haven't got as far to polish my gas cap covers yet![emoji12]
Love the fun Harry!

I use solar charger to keep my batteries charge while in storage.

I decided to try adding 4 oz of mineral oil to each cell of my bait try bank last year and though I noticed a reduction in the frequency of needing to add water. I still check levels monthly. I also noticed much cleaner terminals.

Exactly - doesn't cure everything but it sure helps.

Trying to understand. When you add your 4 oz oil to a cell, do you overfill the cell, or do you pull out water and add oil to the normal full level - that would be just below the inner ring?

On a properly filled cell there is room for 4 ounces of oil. If your cells are already over filled you would have to wait for them to off gas enough.

Is it 4 oz (1/2 cup) of mineral oil per cell or per battery? A 12 volt battery has 6 cells, right? This would be 3 cups of mineral oil! I don't think I've ever added that much water to my batteries. I am leery to let them run that dry. I add maybe a cup of water every few months and it's usually to only a cell or two - not the same amount to all of them. How do I keep track of the amount of oil added to each cell until they all get their 1/2 cup?

I think it depends on the size of the batteries. I am thinking of 2 oz to see how that goes but I have relatively small batteries compared to the folk with T series in their DP's.

Yes, but it was previously suggested in this thread that you add 2 ounces per cell for 12v battery and 4 ounces per cell for a 6 V battery. One should make sure that the electrolyte covers the plates per the manufacturers recommendation and no more. Then add your mineral oil. see Thermoil.com
