AH boiler fluid

Doing some work on the AH the other day (only had it a year.) In taking the motor off to repair a small water leak I noticed the drain valve. So I opened it up to see what came out. The fluid was brown... it looked like the “beet” juice you put in tractor tires to weight them down.

Since I haven’t dealt with this fluid before, wanted to check if this was normal.

Since the reservoir was low, I went to a local RV shop and bought some fluid for AH systems and it was pink?

If you currently have green fluid don't mix it with pink. Your fluid should look light green to pink. It sounds like you need to change yours. Make sure you use distilled water to mix the fluid 50-50.

It’s brown, so I have no idea what it was originally. If it was suppose to be green or pink, I would have to agree it must be changed [emoji106]

John, I'm pretty sure Monaco used the pink boiler fluid in those years. That's what I've been using for top ups, and mine looks brown also.

Yours would have started out pink, but it will end up looking like Coke a Cola shortly after it is used. No worries, unless you are low, then top off with Camco pink and you should be good to go.

Thanks Ben. The PO seemed to have taken pretty good care of this rig. I will probably swap it out just so I know what I have. I’m not worried about anti-freeze properties as I’m never any place it freezes and never plan on it [emoji3]

Thanks Randy! I did put a qt of pink Camco in it. It was concentrate, but I didn’t add any water, which I wouldn’t think would hurt?

When we bought our 07 coach in 2013, the Aqua Hot fluid was the color of strong tea or Coke. Roger Berke told me that was pretty much normal.

However, I wanted to start with new fluid so I drained the system, flushed it well, and refilled with new Camco boiler fluid. I was surprised how much crud came out of the system during the flush so I think it was worth the effort.

I think that is a good idea. Recently Z1 is not throwing heat although all interior fans are working. Haven’t taped the pump yet, so it could be the pump itself.... but could be crud too.

AH changed the fluids used over the years. Do not mix them! Roger Burke has a forum and tons of info there.
Poke around the info. Look at info.
http://forum.rvhydronicheaterrepair.com/forum.php
Also, the fluid is expensive and (in my research) requires a pump to prevent air lock.
I priced one place at $350 plus fluid for the change. Thought that was pretty steep.
For now, I am holding off. Turning brown is normal for many of the fluids.

You really want to mix the pink concentrate 50/50 with distilled water. Too high a concentration is often blamed for the valves sticking. Also, the water transfers heat better than the boiler fluid.

I wouldn’t think a quart without mixing with distilled water would hurt.
