Air Bag Dump
I have been on some steeply sloped sites recently and the last one had my rear wheels off the ground after automatic leveling was done. I promptly had the site changed since having the rear wheels off the ground means no brakes. However I was wondering about the advisability of dumping the air to lower the coach so that that I wouldn't need to jack the back end up so far to level. Does dumping the air have any adverse effect on the air bags? Is this a method to use when you have a steeply sloped site?

No adverse effects. When we had the '02 DSDP I dumped the air, then used the jacks to level. With the present rig I only have air leveling so no choice now.

I'm almost positive that my manual states that you should dump the air before utilizing the hydraulic jacks.

I have air only leveling, but I away dump the air before I level. It helps get the steps as close to ground as possible.

yes, I always dump the air - the coach is therefore already lower and doesnt need near as much 'leveling'... the legs dont have to extend as far, either...
using 'manual' mode also will allow for leveling lower, as well, since 'auto' mode tends to extend the legs longer than needed

I have air levelers only as well, and I agree with doing the manual air dump, lowering the coach as much as possible, then activating the auto-level button. It seems to work well for me, and like stated, the coach is as low as possible to the ground making entry and exit easy.

I can't get the rears wheels off the ground with my jacks just the front wheels and I can get them about 6" off the ground. I try to park down hill to level.

Mike, I always dump the air to get the step closer to the ground! I use the procedure recommended by Monaco.
Extend the slides
Dump the air (if desired)
Level
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

We have the HWH hydraulic leveling system. When you put the system onto "auto", the first thing it does is dump the air.

I've yet to find an "official" Monaco recommended procedure for leveling. Can you tell me where you found it, I've always wondered about whether to put the slides out before or after leveling. All I've really seen was to not have any movement in the coach while the auto leveling is underway!!

Ditto on the mention of any air dumping before leveling in my 06 Camelot Manual. The only reference I could find in my manual is where the switch was to dump the air.
Thanks for all the input!! I will definely try the air dumping next trip out.

I called Monaco tech support and that's what I was told!
BTW, I should have mentioned that our coach has air leveling only, no hydraulic jacks. Don't know if that would make a difference.

Concerning leveling my manual is specific in that it says to have the coach on the inflated air bags and to extend the slides before leveling. Seems to run contrary to a lot of info I have seen on this forum but I have followed since I bought this unit a few years ago.
