Air bags

We suffered an air bag rupture on 15 Aug, on one of the roads in Alaska, that caused the MH to not be movable. We have three different road service plans and done of them could get the MH moved for 3-5 days. We were able to get a 'road service' service to our location and 'yes' the air bag was shot! Being that it was on a Friday, we had to sit and wait until Monday to attempt to find air bags. We made it to a large pull out so no issues with being in danger of the other traffic. After contacting Monaco in Oregon, we were able to get the PN and yes they had some in stock. I attempted to locate an air bag in Anchorage, rather then have it expressed to Alaska but 'no dice'. We finally got the part to Alaska and the DW brought it to the shop that was going to do the replacement. They finally showed up on the 22nd (today) and it only took them about 30 minutes to replace the bag. In looking at the old bag, one can see where it is getting weather checked. I am going to get another front air bag and keep it in the motor home. It was only two nuts on top, two bolts on the bottom and the air line. Just something for those traveling to/from/in Alaska to be aware of. We live here so this was not totally unexpected.

I read another post a year ago or so. I carry 2 airbags now. One front and one rear. A small insurance policy on an older rig.

Call Monaco, get the their part number and the Firestone or whatever brand they use, then call the references provided and I am fairly sure you will find replacements.

After getting back home, to where I could do some checking, I was surprised on the cost from Monaco. I was also able to cross the PN from Monaco to NAPA. Problem is, our NAPA stores cannot order the air bag. As far as the price goes, we paid $339 plus shipping to Alaska. In my research I found the same PN bag for as little as $130. Big difference, which makes we really wonder why Monaco is charging so much. Is it just because they can or??????
I had thought about getting a front and rear bag, just in case, but it appears that the front bags are the ones that really take a beating.
Guess that we all learn something all the time. I hope that this helps others.

Thanks for all your responses, i have found one for about 130 dollars Trucksprings.com

But will try one of our local suppliers now in europe now i have the part no.

The trouble is most dealers like to make money, but they get greedy sometimes.
