Air compressors

Dave, I thought you wanted a compressor to take with you in the motor home. If that is not the case, the Viair is NOT what you need !!! It sounds like you already have a pancake type compressor. If that is true, that is likely all you need. If you rarely use a LARGE impact gun, a pancake will work but will have trouble keeping up with the air volume a impact gun requires. It should work very well for almost everything else. Large air tools, like impact guns, use a LOT of air and usually a compressor with a good size air tank is required for best performance.
I have the Viair, for taking in the motorhome, a pancake compressor for nail guns and other air tools. I also have a compressor with a 40 gallon tank for impact guns and will air up to 160 lbs. I actually don’t need the pancake compressor but ended up with it over the years.

Gnlandrus.....yeah, I use my onboard compressor on the road. I have a 3 gal, 125 lb cylindrical one that struggles to put 110 lbs in my RV tires. I was wondering if a pancake type would be any better. does your 6 gal pancake put air in your RV tires ok?

Yes, it does fine. The pressure can be adjusted on mine. I set it to 120 psi and it works well. Mine is actually a small, twin tank compressor designed for construction use, like running air nailers. It’s a robust little guy and will air up to about 150 psi. Click image for larger version

California air. They are almost silent. I will never own another brand, aluminum throughout so it's light.

Compressor takes forever

I’ve read all the comments regarding compressors and in fact bought my VIAIR because of this forums recommendations. This is my problem it takes forever to full my 22.5 tires ranging from 90lbs to 105lbs psi. After the coach sits it’s not unusual to have to add 20lbs or more to get up to the proper levels. I have used my coach’s tank with an outfitted hose to pump the tires up but again it takes a long time. Should I buy a pancake compressor or the double cylinder compressor? We will be going FT once the house is sold. Just bought a TST tire monitor system so I’m much more aware of my tires. As always I appreciate the options and experience from you all.
Thanks in advance.

There's not '1 size fits all' for your answer. If you like using the onboard air compressor you're using now, consider a doubler that I mentioned in post #7. It takes up very little space, but more $$ that a stand alone compressor. The biggest down side of this system, is you have to start the main engine---but you're doing that now. But it will get you to you max air pressure reasonably quickly.

Any of the suggested aux compressors will work. You have to look at the space availability of your particular situation.
