Air Conditioner Filter Made Easy

Has anyone come up with a cleaver way to easily and quickly change/clean the filters in roof mounted A/C units where the filters are screwed on to the ceiling? In the Executives, this is a real pain because you have to drop the decorative ceiling, 5 bolts, then 4 screws for the filter x two then repeat for the rear A/C. Unless someone has already invented the wheel, I am going to try and come up with a solution. In a quick search I couldn't find anything on this forum. I suspect this is a rare problem.

I was thinking of doing something on my Dynasty. You would still have to drop the decorative part. What I was going to do is buy 14x14 air filters and make a bracket to hold them up against he opening. I would design it so you could slide the filters in and out.

I was hoping to do something similar to that but maybe be able to pull the filters from the side so you wouldn't have to drop the ceiling. Also, do you think the disposable filters will be adequate?

On my RV the area is recessed into the ceiling so I don't have room to slide something in or out. What you describe would be ideal if you have the room. As far as the filter, I would think any good quality household filter would work. The filter is their to collect dust so as long as its doing that.... We would have to consider if it is to restrictive vs the stock set up. Hopefully someone has done his already and just have not seen the posts yet.

I'm in Elkhart...found the aluminum extrusion that should work, got the filters. As soon as I finish the kids "to do" list, I can get the stuff mounted and let you know how it works.

This has been on my "tuit" list for a long time. I have looked for the right aluminum form time to time and finally found it.

I got a kit from HD and glued the material to the flip down frame and left the foam in. It still gets good circulation for what little I use it.

No pics. Have company right now. Just ask at HD for a DIY filter kit. The material is white and came in a plastic bag.

Dunner,

Did you take any pictures of this mod. I am very interested in how you did it.

Thanks.

The orange is contact cement on a model aircraft plywood frame I built. The sides are foam tape. They didn't supply enough to do the whole thing. You could probably cut and fit a S&B filter. I would never do this again.
