After reading Camelot Campers great install mod of adding a third a/c unit and my on going quest to keep things cool. I had been thinking of ways to insulate and bring down the sound of the a/c while watching TV. I first noticed that our front unit only blew air out of the road side vents, seemed funny but I thought that must be the way that the factory wanted it. I found that the curb side was taped off with duct tape. So I emailed Monaco and asked if this was the correct procedure for front a/c installation. They replied no, that it was supposed to be open to both sides. Now it works great.
This story ends by saying check your vents.

When checking our vents a few months ago we found a small wadded up ball of masking tape in one of the vents. Perhaps we need to get the spy cam out and check the vents more thoroughly.

And our AC units seem to be loud also. Good excuse to turn up the TV so we can hear it. Thank goodness we're up north where it's cool weather.

Most of the noise comes from the return air on the AC. A few weeks ago I wanted to replace the existing foam filter with a better filter. The good and the bad of that effort while the AC was much quieter but the new filter cut down on the air flow. I think you could build a baffled box to fit over the AC, use a better air filter. Several years ago I had a home theater with an Electrohome projector that had 6 fans (CRT based and before LCD). There was a hush kit from an aftermarket source that drastically reduced the noise and also filtered the air to the projector.
