Air horn solenoid

Hi All,
Believe my air horn solenoid has decided to stop working.
After a small investigation, Believe it's the 1136 solenoid.
I've just got to do some more testing b4 I purchase.

Anyway Believe this is the info I need if anyone has another part number or please send it to me, 1136 air horn solenoid. 1/8th male and female.

Im getting 12 volts when horn is press and I have tapped it several time, as its a common fault they stick.

Today when home from work I'm going to put 12 volts direct to the solenoid and will see if the horns go off.

If it don't go off I believe it's the solenoid ??

I'm having a little trouble ordering one, as the USA will not ship to the uk, can anyone help me please.
Jason from the UK.

Jason,

Have you confirmed that the solenoid IS getting power when the horn button is pushed?

Try lightly tapping on it while someone pushes the horn button. Sometimes that will (usually temporarily) free up the solenoid.

Are you sure you have the switch on for the air horn?

I mentioned the switch because in a previous the op was having trouble with his air horns and he discovered the switch was tuned off. It sounds like you have done your testing and it appears the solenoid is the culprit.

Try putting a little squirt of silicon spray in the inlet and outlet of valve. Shake it back and forth, then try it again.

First check for continuity through the solenoid coil to make sure it's still good. I've attached instructions explaining the need to take it apart and clean up the plunger. It sometimes get wet from the air going through it and needs cleaning.

I hope getting at yours was easier than mine. I had to take off the driver's front tire and the fender well guard to get at mine. After a few times doing that, I relocated it so I can get to it much easier.

There's nothing special about that solenoid. If you have to replace it, you can find them for about $10 on Amazon or pay Hadley over $50 for one. You can get adapters to fit the new valve and match-up to the 1/4 plastic hoses without any problems.

jkent19,
Your solenoid is a different style than the one Hadley furnishes with its air horn kit. Yours is straight through, the Hadley is a right angle valve. Here's a couple of pictures.

But straight through or 90 degree shouldn't matter as long as it can be installed without kinking the lines.

Make sure it's got a good ground, or as you might say "earth"

Yep! If it's rated for "gases" and has a 12v coil, you can always figure out a way to make it work with the tubing. The replacement doesn't need to look like the one that came on the RV.

However, the instructions for disassembly and cleaning won't help as much as they could if you had the Hadley solenoid but the principle is the same. Just make sure you take it apart over something to catch that little spring on the plunger! You'll have a hard time finding it if drop it.

Funny, when mine wasn't easily accessible, it would stick every time out. Now that I've moved it to where I can get at it, it works all the time. Go figure?

I'm going to strip it down, clean, oil it then rebuild and hopefully it will work again.
I have bought a cheap one off Ebay, lets see it it works when it arrives.
Jason.

Jkent19 I've spent a bit of time in the UK, and your rig looks a little large for many of the B roads I've enjoyed touring around on. But I guess you'll see more over the hedgerows.
