Burgy, it could be a sensor failure as you mentioned. I would block the wheels, make sure the brake is on. start the engine and try to get it up the right temp. Turn off engine and re-check the tranny fluid. If you cannot get it up to the right temp. Turn engine off. wait 15 minutes and check the tranny using the dip stick method.
