If that is so, which I'm sure it is on yours then some have different set ups. Like you I know what mine does and that is light is on weather door open or closed. 14 Vacationer.

Yes. I agree but I can't help but wonder if something's wrong there as I've never seen the amber light on any RV in any CG I've been in. It doesn't seem right and would be distracting.

On ours the light is on only if the steps are out AND the power switch is on. Since I usually turn the switch off when parked ours is very seldom on. Learned that with our 2000 DSDP, had the switch on with the door closed (steps came in). Wife went to get out and fell on the ground since there were no steps there! A combination of poor switch placement (corrected on later models) and not looking.

I believe the steps should always open when the door is opened, even with the engine running. My wife fell also, but it was due to her opening the door and stepping out before the steps were fully extended.

I would have thought so too. I'm learning from this thread that all Kwikee steps are not equipped with the same controller and various override switches. Knowledge is a great thing .

Wow! Sure got more than I expected on this one! Now I'll have to experiment with my coach to see what IT thinks. The only time I ever saw the light come on was when I was "playing" with that unmarked switch. With door closed the switch will retract steps and then steps come back out when I open door again.
Thx guys!!

Mine (1997 HR Endeavor) was rather bizarre ... I forget exactly how it functioned but was not intuitive at all and not on/off when a rational person expected. I think there are a bunch of different controllers out there. I gave up and pulled the wire ... on mine it was worthless and if you weren't paying attention it was on when you walked away in daylight hours. Freakish color too !! Porch light works fine as well as the LED flashlight I hang outdoors for late trips to the outhouse.

Hi

My step light always activated when the steps were out. I replaced the bulb with a super bright led bulb.
I also rewired the light to the bulbs on the inside stairs. This way these lights all come on together. I also replaced the step bulbs with led lights.
The inside stair bulbs are easily accessible under the coach.

Mike,

Our Diplomat is only 3 years newer than yours and they may be set up the same. Monaco wired ours so that if the steps are out the amber light comes on when the porch light is turned on. If the porch light is turned off the amber light goes off. Makes sense to me. Why would you want the amber light on 24/7. It only needs to be on when it is dark. I guess there are different ways to wire the amber light and other brands do it differently as can be seen from all the replies to your post.

Bob

I think if I actually wanted step lights I would wire them directly to the porch light. I can't think of any circumstances where, if I had step lights, I wouldn't also want the porch light on.
