Amber light under coach for steps

I have an amber light under the coach that appears to be for lighting up the outside steps but I have no idea how. Is that supposed to light up somehow? There is an unmarked switch inside the coach that makes the steps come in on demand that sometimes also makes that light come on momentarily but other than that I have no clue. It does not come on with the porch light.
Thanks for any info.

I think it comes on when you turn the outside light on. Mine didn't work, so I went under to see if the bulb was OK. The light is very little and was full of water. I changed the light fixture with a running light.

Mine lights up when the steps are out only. Porch light has no effect on it.

The light is activated automaticaly when the steps are in the out position. There is no switch. Wheather the step switch is active or not means nothing. It is a safety feature.

Ok so when I am parked for the winter and the steps are out except for once a month when I run them in out and lube them that light is on all the time? You are gonna make me go lay on the ground and look after dark....

Only if it's raining, then we want you to lay on the ground.
Seriously; Reflection should be visible, in the dark, without crawling around.

I'm not positive and I'm usually asleep when its dark but I think mine illuminates only when the door is opened. Probably the magnet in the screen door activates it.

Door open. Light on, Door closed LIght off, position of step override switch (newer controller) does not matter,

Not sure if the Step POWER switch (older controller) affects it.

For my year 2000 Kwikee steps, there is a 'Steps' switch inside that turns the power to the steps on/off (if 'off' the steps stay in the last position, if 'on' the steps retract when the door is closed and steps extend when the door is open).
With the switch 'on', the yellow light comes on when the door is open - the steps are extending or already extended. Door closed light is off and steps are retracted.
Switch 'off' - the amber light is always off - door open or closed.

I don't remember how mine originally worked, but it was not to my liking. I have two lights that light the inside steps that are controlled by a switch at the door. The back side of these lights is open in the wheel well. I moved the outside step light wire to one of those inside step lights. Now when I hit the switch, I get lights on the stairwell inside and a light under the step outside. Sure made since to me!!!

The light as well as the step power is connected to the chassis batteries. That is why the steps are still active when you use the house disconnect switch. If the step is out the light will be on. Once again safety...has nothing to do with the door being open. Leave the steps out for a month and you will probably have a dead chassis battery.

I just got back and can confirm that the light only comes on when the door is opened.
