Greetings,
I may be able to help with your purchase. I do not own a VESTA, but I do own her sister a 2012 TRIP model.
Due to a medical condition, I am thinking about selling it. If you are interested let me know and I can list all the options it has "extras" that I am willing to part with as part of the sale.

I have a Vesta 35PBD and am in the San Antonio area. The build quality is on the upper end in my opinion. There are some quirks as you will discover reading through this thread, but overall, this is a very comfortable well-built coach. You can look at mine just send me a PM and we can set something up. You can get me email off of my site profile.

Took the plunge!

Thanks to those who responded to my earlier request with good info and advise...and a special thank you to DW-SATX and wife for letting me and the bride check out his coach in person...

We signed a contract this a.m. for a 2011 32' Vesta...dealer is addressing some minor issues and helping me with the replacement of the 4 drive tires (BTW, they are the original drive tires...2010 manufacturing stamp no less) [steer tires are only 2 years old...]

HELP! Need MaxForce 7 advice.

Our 2011 Vesta, with 58,000 miles just developed loud thump/thumps as were headed to our annual 3-month Florida trip from Massachusetts, and we have found out we have cam/rod issues in our #2 cylinder. This will require finding someone with a lift and ability to either drop and rebuild our current engine or replace it. I am getting quotes of $45,000 to $70,000 to do this. Anyone with experience or insight? I am told this is a MaxForce engine flaw.

MF7 Engine

There are some Maxxforce groups on Facebook. Most posts deal with trucks but there are mechanics on there that may be able to help or point you in the right direction.
You may also want to check out Tiffin Breeze 2011-2015 Owners group on FB as well. Saw where one owner spent $25k on engine rebuild. I have been following them last couple years, being interested in a Breeze but bought a 2011 Trip with 31k mi. No issues except for some interior lighting, sealing areas on the roof and new slide mechanisms. Will be putting it up for sale come summer.
It is hit or miss with these engines. Seemed to have faired better in motorhomes. Keep us posted as to what route you end up taking.

Slide mechanisms

Fortunately the slide repair above, was covered under insurance for road hazard.
Installation of the REK suspension kit is next.
Had big plans because I like things that are unusual and not often seen. Mobility issues are preventing future travel plans.

If you just google maxxforce 7 engine you will get A number of remanufactured or rebuilt “long block” engines, they all are in the $8-$10k range. These would be rebuilt motors with warrantees if some sort you’d have to go thru it all to see what would be best. A shop would then have to remove your engine and transfer all the components over to the new engine and reinstall. Not a small task but these engines are installed in a lot of trucks and busses. If it is a rod bearing and there is damage to the crankshaft it will have to be removed which is not an in place repair. The other option would be a used engine if you can find a reasonable condition one. That would come with all the components but also all the unknowns.

It's been awhile since I've been on the forum. I am having an yellow triangle error on my 2011 Trip, Maxforce 7. I want to thank Mtnbrit from back in 2023 for finding the error code 4227 - 31 which points to the replacement of the crankcase breather. I knew this was coming some day. I thought it might be water in the fuel but after checking the fuel filters everything looked fine. So now I'm off to get a new "breather" and hope it cures it. Thanks again to the forum. I'll have to come back more often.

Still love my 2011 Trip. She has about 43,000 miles and this is the first issue I've had with the engine.

Rodg, pull the doghouse and check if your crankcase breather has a barcode visible on it, if so its of the non-serviceable type and doesnt need replacing. The ECM doesn't know about this and will flag the 4227 "nag" anyways. As I understand it the warning can be ignored. I ended up resetting mine using the diagnostic software.

If you dont have a barcode, then the replacement breather hopefully will and you should not have to replace it ever again.

Here's the thread I found with the info https://www.schoolbusfleet.com/forum...TOPIC_ID=40175

Still love our 2012 Vesta too, she's running great!

Thanks for that. i found a breather on eBay for $200. It is in a box with the correct numbers. I'm going to buy it as a backup. I'll check the one I have for the bar code.
The code clearing procedure is the exact same as the " Change Oil" procedure. I'm not getting a notice to "service breather". I'll do that clearing procedure anyway.
Also looking into doing the REK from Source Engineering.

Maxxforce 7 crankcase breather TSI-12-12-03R1

Just completed the impossible . I’ve swapped the original crankcase breather on my Maxxforce 7 diesel engine with the newer - non-serviceable - breather as suggested in the Service Bulletin TSI-12-12-03R1 dated July 2013.

What a job that is!! For those who don’t know, the old crankcase breather is a huge plastic box mounted to the passenger side of the engine block just above the exhaust manifold. It was originally fitted with a filter element inside and was to be serviced about 30 k miles or so. I guess it clogged too often and it was decided to take the “replaceable” filter out of the equation . It is a massive job to change this this thing as there are freon lines running right over the top of two bolts that hold it onto the engine. Also there are two more that a very difficult to get to requiring quite a lot of extra work removing other components to get the thing off. Passenger tire has to come off to get up inside the wheel well. I have 5 hrs of work on this project.

The new breather is just an empty plastic box designed like the original. I paid $200 for this thing on eBay after seeing it for $500 and up on many truck parts sites. ( huge rip-off at $200 , more so at $500 + ).

I was getting the yellow triangle warning, probably due to the filter clogging and setting off a pressure sensor. All done now but still waiting to see if the triangle come back.

Image shows the old OEM on the left and the new replacement on the right.
