Anyone removed the microwave / convection oven?

Our Sharp Carousel has decided it doesn't want to work anymore! It just immediately blows the 20A fuse behind the control panel. I'm thinking the capacitor, but believe the oven will have to come down to get at it .
With the grease filters removed, I see a couple of diagonal rods, that look like they screw into a backplate. Are these what hold the oven in place?
And yes, I understand the unit weighs about 70 lbs, and will need to be supported from underneath.

The same thing happened in our'06 Endeavor. As time was of the essence (isn't it always?), I just bit the bullet and bought a new one rather than take the time to tear into it and repair.

Been several years, but yes I remember a backplate that the uwave sorts 'hooks' onto after tilting it up and engaging/disengaging the bracket. I thought that was it, but there was also several really long screws that were randomly screwed from the cabinet into the case. Made it tougher than it should have been to replace it because they were well-hidden.

We found that the box the new oven came in was almost exactly the right height to use as a support when lifting it over the stove. (Did Monaco really plan it that way?). Save it!

So, what you are saying is the long rods that you access from under the grease filters 'do' remove the unit?
Is there any screws that go straight down from above, that support the oven?

Basically, yes that is my recollection, Ben, but it's been several years since i did that task, so I'm not completely positive anymore - and I don't want to lead you astray.

I do remember some screws that seemed OEM/Sharp, as well as a bunch of additional square-tip ones Monaco added on their own. They were hard to find/get, and I was surprised that even tho they pierced the case they didn't hit anything inside. And, as they say, we're looking at snowflakes here, so the details may change (like all the extra screws Monaco added), but the basic install should be the same.

Here's a pdf of my old install instructions (mine's a Sharp 1874) that may help. Page 7 shows how the uwave 'hooks' to the wall, and where the screws go thru the grease filter hole.

Those are long rods that hold it upright. It does take some help to lift it up onto the lip of the back plate.

If yours is not venting to the outside already this is a good time to modify it to do so. It is not that hard and makes a lot of difference.

Here is a video showing the removal of a microwave held up with the 2 long screws as well as other changes he had to make.

As Rusty Tools stated I found that Monaco installed some square drive screws. Weak memory but I think they were accessable through the grease filters or ventilation opening

If you have a cabinet above the microwave there will be two screws that drop straight down into top of microwave. On my current coach I have the two long angled bolts and two from the top for a total of 4 holding it in place. I took it out to install a through the sidewall vent.

On a previous coach I had pointed screws run into each side of the microwave from inside the adjacent cabinets.

I do have a thin cabinet above it, and there is no visable bolt / screw heads coming thru the cabinet floor, so I guess the cabinet floor needs to be removed.

As soon as you mentioned the vent, YC1, it reminded me that I'd bookmarked a thread about just that project several years ago, but never got around to doing it. When I read thru it again, it also describes some install info about the uwave itself.

And I meant 'square-drive', not 'square-tip' screws

Thanks for the link, and pdf file Rusty !
Looks like Bill Willard had screws running into the sides of his oven as well. I have a big enough gap on the sides of mine so I can shine a flashlight up there, and see no screws there.

Snowfakes !

I just vented my microwave to the outside. HUGE improvement!
My microwave did have 2 screws under the floor of the cabinet above the microwave. I think 4 screws held the cabinet floor in place. 1 in each corner. Those angled rods at the bottom sides of the microwave, do hold it in place. When you loosen them, the microwave hinges down. The front drops. I used one of the foam wedges, we use for watching tv in bed, to drop the microwave on. It actually worked perfectly!! When it is fully down, the Microwave lifts off a lip that runs the full length at the rear. Remember to unplug it. I did it by myself.
Once you figure it out, it’s pretty easy !
Install the outside vent if you get the chance. It really is worth doing !
Good luck,
Greg.

Thanks Greg!

I can feel the screws that hold the small upper cabinet floor down.
