I thought I read some where that the 2nd electric element was 240 vac. Is that true?

Steve,

That is correct.

The only Aqua-Hot unit with dual Electric Elements is the newest 600D model. It requires a 50 amp shore power connection or an Onan Generator that outputs 240 VAC to run BOTH elements. Otherwise you can only use just the one 120 VAC element.

Basically, one Leg of the 240 VAC powers up one AH element.

No it is not 240 volt, the second just requires another 120 volt supply to it. My problem is not having a switch through my multiplex system to turn it on and off.

Are you able to program a spare switch to a relay? I'm not educated on the multiplex to know if that is possible. A regular switched relay in a useful location should be fairly straight forward.

Bill,

First you need to determine which LEG that the one working element is using.

Then if there is enough room in your power panel to tap into the other LEG, install a circuit breaker for that electric run to the Aqua-Hot unit. If you don't have enough room then you could purchase a circuit breaker with split inputs, one for the old circuit and one for the new element circuit.

Next, if you choose, you will need a 12 VDC relay to install for switching the element on and off with the 12 VDC switch. See my electrical diagram regarding the relay. I have one used for the Aqua-Hot electric element and one for the engine block heater.

Or you could use the circuit breaker as the switch. To make things simpler, I would NOT install the relay but use the circuit breaker and leave that one on ALL the time thereby not wearing out the circuit breaker switch. Then if you want both elements on, use your Aqua-Hot switch to turn the second one on and off as needed.

That's a good idea Richard. I may be able to run a separate wire down from the closet where I had a stacked washer and dryer, before I replaced them with a Splendide. I have to look into it a bit more, as the control board on the new Aqua-Hot is set up to control the two elements. If I can do it your way I will.
