Aqua Hot Diesel burner fails to re-ignite
I am new to this forum. I have a 2008 Beaver Contessa that has an aqua Hot system model AHE-450-DE1. With the diesel Burner switch on, the burner ignites and runs for anywhere between 6 minutes and maybe 2 hours. At some point the burner shuts off and the diesel burner light on the panel goes off, and the burner will not re-ignite until I cycle the diesel burner switch off and then back on. With the electric Heater switch on, and the diesel burner switch off, the aqua hot cycles through its functions like it is supposed to, but does not produce the level of heat and recovery that the diesel burner does.
Has anyone encountered this type of malfunction and found a solution?
Thx

Sounds like a bad connection in the switch circuit to the diesel burner. Taking the connection off and putting them back non agsin has solved several issues on our viach. Just a bit of corrosion builds up.
Worth a shot!

Things that come to mind are aqua hot fuel filter and nozzle. If they haven't been replaced within the last year or two, I would suspect them. I replace mine every 18 months, but I use mine a lot as we full time..

running for 6 minutes sounds OK. Two hours sounds excessive. Go through the troubleshooting in the service manual and subscribe to
Aqua-Hot Questions
Do you had any error indications on the control panel?

And I also suggest this as an issue. The next time it may happen, locate the AH master panel usually located within 36 inches of the AH. Usually in the same compartment. Ther you shold see a panel with some LEDs on them that may indicate the error code the system may be experiencing. Your AH service manual should have a listing of the fault codes.

The diesel light going off with switch on is usually a fault indication of the Webasto burner controller. Which may or may not also show up on the aquahot panel

Join this forum and search around. There is a wealth of knowledge there. Just had Roger rebuild my Webasto.

Slightly misleading on the 2 hour run. During the 2 hours the burner cycles on and off correctly. At some point it fails to re-ignite the burner and the diesel light is off. The electric portion of AH runs fine.

Yep, check the control panel for errors. The burner or spark gap may just need adjustment.

First and foremost, go to the Roger Burke's forum for help
I have the AHE-400D, pretty much same as yours and I had the same
similar problem. If you are handy, you may be able to troubleshoot
yourself.
If you have the service manual (you can download) it on the Aqua Hot web
site. On page 23 it talks about the DC high level thermostat. It can be reset
manually. If the temperature in the tank gets above a preset temperature
(don't have the manual in font of me) it will trip and the burner will not
ignite on the next cycle. The green light inside you coach panel will go out.
You can turn off and on but if the DC high thermostat trips it will not be
able to start. There are several reasons that can cause it to trip, here is
what caused mine.
1. Expansion tank should be installed higher than the tank (I had to move
mine tank up about 8")
2. Low fluid level in the Aqua Hot tank? (did you check the level)
3. Air in the expansion tank line going to the tank. The tank can get air
bound, so you can bleed the air out of the line with the Schrader value
that is on top of the tank.
All three of those things that I have described above caused my problems.
Also check the control thermostat as well.
hope this helps.

One other thing to consider - I've had a similar problem where I had a bad ground. Bad ground is often not obvious be easy to prove and fix. You need to add a jumper from the main ground on the board to the frame of the coach.
I did last winter and it proved the problem, then I had to wire in a permanent new ground.
BTW, on my coach the ground wire left the board and went back inside the coach and I could never find the other end to see what was going on, so a new ground was the easy route.

That sounds like a problem at the burner. The diesel light going off is a fault indicator coming from the burner controller.

Can also be a fault at the control board. OP has asked for help from Roger Berke on his forum, who pointed this out as well.
