AquaHot Burner Not Working

The burner on our AquaHot stopped working. The burner doesn't do anything, like it has no power. The rest of the AquaHot works fine, heat zones and pumps. The control panel shows everything normal and no alarms. Can't find any blown fuses or tripped breakers.

Any ideas?

AquaHot model is AHE-100 03S.

Do you know that it heats on the 110 volt source? If so, the thermostat, float switch and high limit protection is working. You didn't say whether the fuel pump was running, or not.

The controller board takes care of the work of telling the 110 volt and/or the burner to provide heat input to the reservoir. The 110 volt source for heat is completely controlled by that controller board which also monitors the protective devices for the system for both heat sources. The diesel source for heat, and hence the burner operation sequence is controlled by the "diesel burner controller" that is mounted on the side of the burner, itself. That is a self contained device without any accessible fuses or breakers. If your problem is with that controller, I'm of no further value to you. Sorry about that.

Here is a link to the owners manual for that unit.

Those are the only two manuals that they list. There are service manuals for the 04S that might give you some insights into troubleshooting, and have lots of schematics and diagrams to help understand the system, but I don't know how similar they are to your 03S.

There are a couple of well known service guys out in the field, and there are folks on this form that will gladly refer you. Personally, we've used John Carrillo a number of times. His website is John Carrillo RV Hydronic Heating Specialist ~ Heat My RV

You don't say what part of the world you are in, or your coach year make and model, but if you are in the desert southwest or anywhere along the sun belt, you should be able to get excellent service at your coach this time of the year.

OB-One, got a question, when you hit the burner switch can you hear the pump come on and it just doesn't light or no pump?

We get some heat from the electric side, not much because it's only about 1600watts.
The fuel pump doesn't appear to run.

I would contact Roger Berke on his forum, Forum.RVHydronicHeaterRepair.com
Also I can heartily recommend Rudy Legett, who is in Houston area, as a very good conscientious Aqua-Hot tech, (713) 818-3234

Have you tried resetting the low voltage reset on the control panel on the overhead on the basement passenger side?

AquaHot

Hi,
Have a 4S so may not apply to 3S.
When you turn on the diesel switch do you get a green light? If so, does it stay on or shuts off after 30 seconds or so. If it shows no light after the start it means the control box has likely failed, or coil has failed to ignite the burner. It is also possible the fuel pump has failed as well, or the flame sensor has failed because it is dirty. Also the nozzle has clogged up. As you can see, many things need to be checked starting with the nozzle and filter in the event that the annual service has not been recently done.
On AquaHot,s site and Roger Berke,s site there are tutorials that help troubleshoot the nonstarter problems. Unless you are experienced in electronics and are a bit handy mechanically you may find it best to get a service guy as suggested in previous postings.
The first question that Roger will ask is what are the conditions of all lights on the control board and when the last service was done. Contact him online and he will help you test the system or give you contacts for repair in what ever direction you are going

There are fuses inside the cover of the AH, have you checked there?

RV Hydronic Heater Forum has specific trouble shooting guides for many issues. Post a question and Roger will direct you.

On ours when that happened it was the float switch. We had been on a rough stretch of road and I presume that's when it happened. The new one was made of brass instead of plastic. Aqua hot tech said they were a known problem that's why they started making them out of brass. Ours would work everything on electric, just the diesel side was inop. Randy

Annual preventive maintenance will avoid many problems. When was yours last serviced?

I changed mine to brass. The bad thing about that is you have to drain all the boiler coolant out to do that. Not something you can do quickly. You can test the float switch with a multimeter and if bad you can jump it and bypass it for heat until you get home.

Many things can contribute, but after dealing with a month long self repair process my guess is your nozzle shot. It's an easy repair.

I also will tell you Roger Berke is the BEST!!! If you are reasonably mechanically inclined you can fix it with his help. If not find someone to fix it for you.

If the unit isn't leaking, my opinion is you can fix it cheaper than you think with Rogers help. If it's leaking..... Ouch!
