Correct, older units have four Klixon's or temperature switches. One high temperature Klixon's for each electric and diesel system and one lower threshold for the diesel and one for the electric staggered by about 5 or so degrees for turning on the corresponding system.
The newer system use a three Klixon's system. Two lower ones, one for each system (diesel and electric) and one for the upper that will signal the temperature has been satisfied and will turn off either one that is on or both if they are both on. So by leaving both electric and diesel on the same scenario will occur. The diesel will ignite when the electric cannot keep up with the demand.
Granted I don't full-time but I generally go every other year with a service. I know many who full-time and just do it once a year. More than that almost seems wasteful. I personally wouldn't do it any more than annual unless you are seeing that constant black smoke indicating that the fuel nozzle is getting enlarged. A slight puff at startup is not uncommon, so please don't confuse that with the unit needing a nozzle change.
I have a couple of videos on my YouTube channel depicting a standard service of the Aqua-Hot burner, one showing adjusting the fuel pressure and one showing a complete overhaul of the burner assembly on the bench if anyone is curious as to the procedure to service it yourself. There are also many more videos out there depicting the same thing, mine are just better.
Correct, there should be very little, if any, vapor or odor from a properly tuned and serviced Aqua-Hot.
Mike.

Or, like on ours, the AquaHot is tied into the engine cooling system so water is heated as you drive.

Good catch, I forgot about mentioning that. Not all Aqua-Hot systems are tied into the engine cooling system.

Thanks for all the great info! After letting it run the odor is gone. I like the idea of running both electric and diesel and letting the coach decide. Odd that there is no mention of that in the owners manual.
Thanks guys.

All serviced, my first service of an Aqua Hot. Is there suppose to be anti freeze in the distribution lines? I didn't see any of it. I did learn how to ground the circ pumps to prime the system. Heat at all exchangers.
