Atwood water heater

The Atwood waterheater will ignite but shuts down after a few seconds. Tries to ignite again, shuts down again. After 4 tries The red light comes on and it stops. Anybody have an idea what it might need? The electric element works fine.Thank You for any help you can give me. Jim

Try cleaning the sparker in the burner compartment. The rod senses the flame once it has lit. Scotch bride type pad or even a dollar bill. Don't use stand cloth or any abrasive material. You can damage the rod. If that doesn't work the ignition board is the next most likely problem.
Make sure there is no rust or trash in the burn tube.

Soot/carbon build up on spark electrode will impede the 'Flame Proving' circuit as will a dirty/loose spark electrode wire connection



Electrode has to be 'engulfed' in Flame when it lights
