Atwood Window Latch

I have a broken window latch and finally got around to making a new one. I used 2x2X1/8” aluminum angle aluminum and cut it with a mitre saw with a carbide blade and a dremel. I think you can use 1 1/2” angle. It took about half an hour to make this one. I ordered an assortment of shoulder bolts and will use a nylon lock nut to attach it once I put the cut in it where it engages the window.

I think yours may look a little better than mine .

BTW I think I bought my shoulder bolts etc at Lowes .

I'm wondering if I can't make a form out of plastic and use a bandsaw to rough cut out the shape and a router bit to finish it? I need to ponder that.

I needed something to do on a cold day while waiting for warmer weather to tackle my hydraulic line issue.

I saw those, that’s what led me to make own!

We used a wood dowel rod for awhile . We found without a lock the window would
slowly vibrate open

Well, I drilled the hole in the wrong place and had to make another. If you make the cut where it latches, you can trace the hole location through the window and not have to measure! Live and learn.

Hi Dennis; NICE JOB! I was either lucky or it's my, get extra when ordering parts syndrome, but when we bought our Windsor in 2015 the big window above the couch that has a red latch was broken. So I ordered extra red and black latches from Parkin Industries when the latches were still available. Someone here recently asked about Atwood window parts and a I went to Parkin's web site to discover that all the Atwood window parts they were carrying were all no longer available as of 9/2020. So I got some GOLD in the parts supply. Again, nice job!

Do you have something in between to create friction and hold the toggle in position? The original has detents to hold it up or down. With a metal toggle, I'd be worried about one of my kids slamming the window with the toggle in the wrong position and getting it hung up on the window frame.

I hadn’t thought of that the balance of the latch keeps it latched. I ordered several shoulder bolts so I had a slightly longer one; I stuck a small spring in there and it works great so far. The spring had to go on the nut side so the latch would line up with the cut out in the window.

I painted the latch with bed liner. I hope it holds up better than paint.

I don't remember my locks having detents but they may . ( CRS )
To maintain some friction you can use how much you tighten the nylock nut
or you can use a wave washer .

They look good! The spring works to hold it open too.
