Banging my head one too many times

On my 2005 Panther the head of my bed is up against the window which creates its own problems (pillows bending the shade, etc) but then Monaco in their infinite wisdom put a tall set of cabinets above the bed and then added insult to injury by placing 2 drop down decorative lights and 2 speaker grills for me to slam my head on every time I get into the bed. Of course my wife being shorter than me fits without too much problem but I can't sit up straight to watch tv and i have to be very careful when I lay down on the bed to keep from slamming my head. I see that mine isn't the only coach designed stupidly this way, has anyone changed the configuration to give more room? I am thinking of removing the cabinets and having them remade so that they are much smaller but my wife doesn't want to lose the storage. Please let me know if you have any options. Thanks, Happy New Year Steve 05 Panther

We had the same problem with a 02 Newmar MountainAire -- I removed the cabinets -- We`ve never had a storage issue -- Don`t full time, so don`t carry a lot of "Stuff" -- Most coach builders changed to side windows in the slide, about 05/06 -- I recieved the new FMCA magizine, & it features the 2014 Monaco Dynasty -- It looks like it has a window a the head of the bed -- William Willard

I've never had a problem. You have a queen or king? Which side of the bed are you on? Have you tried the other side?

This brings back memories...bad memories. When we were ready to trade a headboard and not a window behind the bed was a deal breaker for us. We are now "happy campers".

I remember the days of freezing our heads at night because there was a window at the head of the bed. Had to put a piece of foam board in the window at night in the winter time. No more windows at the head of the bed for us.

Yeah, thought thru many things when buying this motorhome. Never laid in the bed until after I bought it. Oh well, time to do some modifications.....

If it is the edge of the cabinet that is causing you pain, you might consider making a cushion similar to the rails you find on water beds. Covering it with fabric to match the interior will give it a factory look.
