Banks Power Pack -- Disconnect?

I have a 2004 Monaco Knight with a Cummins 330. My mechanic, who seems to know DPs pretty well, tells me that the Banks Power Pack is bad for the engine and should be disconnected because it may cause heat damage to the engine. I try to keep the EGT below 1200 degrees, and it rarely gets into the 1300 (redline) range, and just for a few seconds. Is my mechanic being too conservative? What would happen if I disconnected the Banks -- mileage, power, etc?

He's wrong! I installed the full set up on my '02 350 ISC. Never a moments problem in the next 10 years with it but you sure could tell when it dialed back the power. Don't worry about it. The Banks kit is well engineered and they collaberated with Cummins during it's design.
You can't just disconnect it either as there was a new wiring harness installed. You shoukd have gotten a bypass plug to use in case it needed to be put back to stock. I left it in the rig for the new owner.

Perhaps but if you do not push it too hard and have a egt guage and keep it out of the overtemp should be ok. I know several who spent a lot of money to put it in. I have a isl400 so I have no use for it

Some of the old school guys do not like hot rod modifications. However, the Banks kit is well engineered as long as you monitor the temperatures.
Your only problem will be if the Banks controller fails they are no longer available.
If you do decide to disconnect it, there are several folks that would love to buy it or even just purchase the controller.
Enjoy the extra power!
