I just replaced my Norcold LRIM 1200 with a Samsung RF197 and would like to add two more 6 Volt batteries (for a total of six new Interstate GC2 or maybe Lifeline AGM). I have a battery compartment with two trays in it. One tray is being used for the chassis batteries (two 12 volt Deka 1231MF 1000 CCA ) which are 13” x 6.75” x 9.5”. With those batteries being 13 long I can’t fit any more batteries in that compartment. I would like to replace them with two smaller 12 volts (10.25 long CCA 800) to make room for the two new 6 volts I want to add. My user manual says I need 1500 CCA at zero degrees ( I will never ever be close to zero degrees) to start my Cummins 400 ISL. My other tray which is the same size holds the four 6 volts which are 10.25 long that I currently have. Can I get by with changing the CCA from 2000 to 1600? I’m assuming that you add the CCA for each battery to come up with the total CCA required.

The dimensions were a bit confusing. However lets talk battery types. Look at your battery compartments. If you have the regular batteries with the screw tops that need water, I'll bet the battery terminals and the general conditon of the bay is ugly. I would strongly recommend that you change to AGM batteries. You are going to be using more battery with the new reefer. So you will be charging and discharging more often. I have over 7 years use of AGMs. The terminals and compartments look NEW!. I have a all electric coach with a residential reefer. The only way to go..................
