Beaver Marquis Gillig chassis brake questions

I have a 1997 Beaver Marquis Tourmaline withe the Gillig chassis and the brake pedal seems to require a lot of pressure to get the coach to stop. Is this a common problem? I think part of the problem is the angle of the pedal requires downward pressure which requires using your ankle muscles insted of leg muscles in other vehicles. Does anybody know if my unit has disc brakes or drum. If they're disc, who manufactures the calipers?

Any insight into this is welcome.

Do you have air brakes or hydraulic or air over hydraulic. I doubt a 1997 would be discs. Have you looked underneath to see if you have drums or disc. If you cannot answer these questions you need a qualified mechanic to check out your brake system .

Hi Mike! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Noticed you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello! I have a 40' diesel pusher and the air brakes are pretty hard to push! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

The 1997 Marquis used the Gillig Chassis. It was full air brakes (all drum).

See the link in my signature and there is a Chassis Service and Parts manual available for download.

Your brake lining may be "glazed" that happens from overheating the brakes and results in poor stopping (more pedal pressure needed). It could also be that the brakes are out of adjustment (which would then require more air in the brake chambers and a longer pedal stroke).
