Bedroom Ceiling Fan replacement

Looks like it is time to replace the ceiling in in the bedroom. I see the replacements fans all have 4 speeds instead of 2 like the one I have. Also, my wall switch has the stock circular button with up and down for the two speeds. The new wall switches seems to be rectangular with different wiring.

Has anyone tackled this and have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Both the switch positions provide 12 volts, just to a different set of wingdings on the motor. Tie the 12 volt lines together on the fan end so both sides of the switch supply 12 volts to the fan then install any speed fan you want that has a remote.

This is what Monaco installed in my coach with almond blades. You can replace just the motor if you want.

Those piece of junk 12 volt fans and motors are just junk and a pain. Replaced ours four times I think. Replaced the motor a time or two, replaced the bearings more times than I want to admit. The darn things begin going tick tick tick after a time.

We full time and ours runs 24/7. Weekenders may never wear one out.

The latest versions may use more wires and you might have to snake some more wires to the fan. That is a miserable job.

Long story short for this last go round. Bought a 110 volt fan. Yes had to rewire but I already had added decent wires to accommodate previous changes. I just use the pull chain now and put a blank cover over the old switch plate.

Quiet and smooth and never goes tick tick tick. Grrrr.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses!

I decided to replace the motor (good to know I can do that). We don't use it that much, but I do want it working. Not ready to do any rewiring if I don't have to yet :-)

Our's does that as well from time to time. Seems to come and go.

Annoying, isn't it!

Nope, not anymore.

I have spent so many hours replacing he bearing and trying to figure out what is ticking. I think it could be the brushes. But no worries now with a 110 volt unit.
