Belt Line sealant

What sealant did Monaco use on the outside moldings: Beltline, slide out moldings, etc. Looks like Silicone but if so I think it is not ordinary silicone. Thanks.

Moisheh,

As Ben says, they used silicone. However, silicone is difficult to repair because new silicone won't stick to old silicone very well. Neither will other sealants such as Proflex.

Like Boomer, I also have had better results with Proflex, but you have to completely clean off all the old silicone before applying it or virtually any other sealant. I have used plastic scrapers, non-abrasive scouring pads and tried silicone remover as well as other solvents. One that seems to work well is Acryrsol, which is available at auto paint stores.

Good luck!

Roy

I have had very good results with Acrysol as well. Used Sikaflex in place of silicone. Mask off so you create a 'blunt' edge to prevent (any) it from peeling at the edges. Used Sikaflex in black. Looks great, kind of like a gasket.
