best path for new coax from outside to upper right tv cabnet area

I am trying to install a portable satellite dish and receiver in my 2002 Windsor. I was thinking I could use the existing coax from the "cable" input in the water hookup bay to the upper right equipment cabnet (coax was in the AUX input of the switch box). This isn't working. I had used that input for a cable connection recently so I felt that it was a good coax. Any thoughts as to this problem?

Then, if that path is not going to work, does anybody have an recommended coax route from the outside of the coach to the overhead equipment cabinets?

Thanks

I think what you're trying to do is similar to what I did in our 01 Winnebago Adventurer. You'll have to add a couple diplexers (splitters). One on the outside cabinet where your cable hookup is located and another in the coach near your distribution center. I got the Motorolla diplexers and hardware at Menards.

I've attached a diagram of how ours is wired. I did it about 5 years ago after getting tired of trying to manuever the coach to get satellite reception everytime we camped in a wooded area.

PedalBike.....That cable should work. If it doesn't, I would run a 50' cable down from the receiver cabinet and coil the excess in the generator bay. This would make it easy to just unroll the cable to where you want to position the dish. You could add more cable, if necessary to the end of this coax run, limiting the connectors.

I've run several different cables down the "A" pillars on both side of the windshield. Just pull the plastic covers back. Somewhere under the dash you'll have to punch through another hole in the firewall or fish it through with some existing wires.

Even if that existing wiring works for cable, it doesn't automatically mean it will work for satellite. If there are any splitters or amplifiers or switches in that line before it gets to the receiver, there will likely be problems. Also, if it's older and smaller RG-59 cable which is often used for cable and antenna frequencies, it may have trouble with the higher frequencies used by satellite which normally uses a slightly larger RG-6 cable.

While that may help explain why that cable isn't working for you, I'm sorry that it doesn't really help your situation. I have no insight to offer as far as running a new cable.

Problem solved. Found an over crimped coax fitting inside the "cable" input plate in the water connection bay. Replaced that fitting and now a much happier camper. Thanks to all! I sure appreciate this forum!

Great catch! As you found, satellite signals are much more sensitive to bad cabling than antenna or cable signals. What works for cable, doesn't necessarily work for satellite. I'm glad you found your problem and that it was an easy fix!
