Brake Problem

We have an 01 HR Imperial, with a 350 turbo diesel. A week after a trip to Wilmington we tried to pull it out of the storage shed, to clean the sand out. After cranking and airing up, I released the air brakes, put it in D, but it wouldn't budge. I can feel the transmission engage, I put in forward, then reverse, but it won't move. I can feel the brakes holding it. Any ideas?

Probable just shoes rusted to the drums. Do six or eight full brakes pressure applications. If that doesn't work try rocking by going from D to R on the transmission.

It sounds like the brake shoes have rusted to the brake drums. This has not happened to us, but it did happen to our Motorhome when it was at the dealer for service. This can be somewhat common, based on humidity and how warm the drums were when it was parked. Usually rocking it back and forth from drive to reverse will release them. A little throttle may be necessary.

Be advised that one or more drums/shoes may make a loud 'BANG' when they finally release. Kinda scary the first time it happened to me

Yep, agree with the above, had it happen on our '00 DSDP on FL chassis but never on the '02 on Spartan chassis.

Most of the rime that happens during rainy weather a simple fix is ride the brakes before storing coach to warm up the drums and dry it out.
