Broken Down

...in Baker City, OR. Lost Turbo Boost...no power. Pulled in here and the low air alarm went off. Never came above 65psi. Called Roadside and they sent over a mechanic. I followed him back to his Truck/RV/Diesel shop. They changed fuel/air filter to fix the boost problem. They will work on the air problem in the morning. They looked around and didn't hear any leaks...? Suggestions?

Is it possible that the air governor or pressure relief valve went bad? Keep us posted when you find out what the issue is!

Sorry for your issues on the road. How long since the air dryer was serviced?

Finally got settled in rock away beach, or.
I spent 24hrs at "Grumpys" diesel/car/RV shop. First off they changed fuel/air filters. Had to wait until next day to check air leak. Found small air leak near the PacBrake actuator and fixed it. I took it for a test drive and still no turbo boost. The owner, his chief mechanic and I took it out with the mechanic at the hatch over the engine. He saw that the PacBrake was in the closed position. When he manually manipulated the actuator, we got boost. So after all this was weighed it was determined that the actuator failed and closed the butterfly and the turbo wouldn't boost. While still driving the rig the turbo got exceptionally hot and melted the hose to actuator causing an air leak that turned on air alarms without totally losing brakes. We decided to have the actuator rigged open so I would boost but not have exhaust brakes. As soon as we left Baker City I made an appointment with Freightliner in Portland to have the actuator installed since Grumpys did not have the part nor any time for two weeks.

What a coincidence....

I just talked to a good friend of mine a couple days ago who lives in Baker.

We were talking about getting vehicles fixed and he said he has been going to a place called Grumpy's for many years.

Said the guy was a bit gruff...grumpy...but did good work for him.
