Thanks J n J, the welding job last year was the first time I used that mechanic for anything. He’s done other work since then and I have started to see a trend of him taking shortcuts and not being very diligent. I’ll definitely be finding a new mechanic.

Hi Jim, Guardian Plates are designed and installed by Talin RV to correct the poor bottom edge design of the Monaco slides. The slides are prone to leak, causing hidden water damage until it’s no longer hidden. We hadn’t seen any problems and Talin confirmed our slide floors were still in good shape. We had them put on as a preventative measure given that is a known and potentially very costly issue.

Any updates on your rig Moe? I will be visiting Josams this fall to have an alignment and will have them check the chassis out as well while I'm there.

Hi Eddie, they started working on the rig at Josam’s Tuesday and may possibly have it done by this evening. So far I am VERY impressed with their operation and approach to customer service. Very professional group!

Question Which Monaco Chassis are prone to failure?

I’ve read some Monaco have trailing arm issues, others w/different design/year are ok. How can I learn about ours? Thank You

I think it's the R4R and RR4R chassis that have that reputation.

Wow! Glad this is working out good for you. That was a scary problem and it seems you are in good hands.

Josam did a 4 wheel alignment on our Dynasty years ago; don't know of any shop that does as many Roadmaster semi monocoque chassis in the east.

Planning to get our new-to-us 05 Sig to Josam soon too, maybe the same trip down to Chris at Talin for slide plates.

The same frame failure happened to us in 2018. Here's my post describing our fix.

We have since put 15,000+ additional miles on the coach and all is well.

Update and pics

Josam completed the repairs (see pics) to both vertical trailing arm supports yesterday and knocked off a few other things I had them do while there. It was a great experience working with Barry and his team!

I’m now at Lazydays in Wildwood to have the drive chain on our kitchen slide replaced. They said this will be a big and difficult job...but I knew that going in.

That looks like a great fix!
Is that a new square tube inside the upright as well as the moon shaped brace?

Yes! They reinforced it with the steel insert and added the gusset. It looks solid now.
