Building TV Lift Cabinet

For some time I've wanted to get rid of the Jack Knife sofa and finally decided I wanted an entertainment center with TV lift and fireplace. No more wrenching the neck to watch the head banger.

The accompanying photos show the gradual assembly of the cabinet and its accessories.

First steps were to remove the Jack Knife sofa on the drivers side and relocate the convertible sofa from the passenger side to the drivers side.

Surprised to find that the convertible sofa was originally installed with four small self drilling screws into the frame work of the slide. It is now installed with four 3/8" elevator bolts.

Next was trial fitting the tv lift mechanism to verify height, both up and down. I searched a lot of products and found that almost all were too tall covering part of the window.

Finally came across the TouchStone SlimLift Pro that worked perfectly for a 43" LED TV with sound bar installed underneath.

https://www.touchstonehomeproducts.c...nt=35396674177

Frame work was to be 1" x 3" clear pine with 3/4" plywood for the side panels. No screws or attachment to the walls. Unit is solely screwed to the frame work of the slide floor.

Next steps were to verify the lowered and raised height with the tv installed.
Also needed to verify that it cleared the window valence.

Next step was to layout the floor and add diagonal braces to support the weight of the tv and lift. Keep in mind that the unit is not screwed to the walls and must be self supporting.

I chose to build this with a space frame instead of traditional cabinet making practices. Goal was to reduce weight as much as possible.

Added the lift top for the Corian lid and verified lowered height.

With the lift positioned it was time to create a practice front face frame from pine. This would eventually be replaced with cherry.

More space frame supports were then added.

With the practice face frame installed it was time to build the mounts for the fireplace and test to ensure it worked.

Fireplace is a Dimplex Multi-Fire XD 25"

With the fireplace mounts completed it was time to replace the pine practice face frame with the final one made out of cherry.

It was also time to install the internal frame work to hold the 4K Blue ray player, Roku 4K receiver and the pull out laptop table.

Also added backing for the 5mm Cherry plywood that would line the inside of the cabinets giving a truly finished look when the doors were opened.

Time to move on to fitting the soft close drawer slides and cabinet doors.

I don't have the equipment to build the doors so I ordered them from Amish Cabinet Doors.
