Cabinet latches--2000 Dynasty

I know this is a simple question, but I'm hoping someone has some first-hand experience with this. Due to my wife's arthritis, she has considerable difficulty opening some of our cabinet doors, especially the overhead ones. I am almost through installing large HANDLES to replace the knobs, and the shape, large size, and smooth backs of the handles have made it much easier for her. I would recommend this to any of you with similar difficulties.

But while I'm at it, I've decided to look into replacing the latches. I have the Southco "clasped finger" type plastic latches, and I have always disliked how much force is required to CLOSE them. I could put up with the force, but they cause the doors to make a heck of a racket when they slam closed. I can easily hear someone inside my coach opening and closing overhead doors when I am standing outside. The Southco latches come in two strengths, but even the lower strength one is very noisy.

I realize that coaches need sturdy latches to keep doors from flying open in motion, but mine surely seem excessive. I'm considering magnetic catches, which come in all variations of strengths. That allows the door to be closed softly and effortlessly. I've tried one with a 6# pull, and it "feels" adequate.

I realize this is just a "pet peeve" of mine, but has anyone else been annoyed by it and found a replacement latch they really like?

Thanks for humoring this old man...

Van...Take a look at this blog post. This person had the same problem and went to a different style latch.

Mike, I have seen a latch like than on my friend's Prevost. It was by "Sugastone" on his coach. They worked perfectly and looked great, but were breathtakingly expensive. With about (60) of them to replace, my wife would have to fall in love with them before I could spend over a grand on cabinet latches. Thanks for your suggestion, though. Wish I could afford them!

Chuck, I have seen those latches advertised in a variety of places, but none as inexpensive as these, much less made from stainless steel. The writer you referenced was certainly enthusiastic. I will surely give them a try. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Those are what our Magna came with. Had to replace one when the screw backed out and one of the ball bearings and springs got lost. We latch the doors for travel, but once we stop we leave them unlatched if we open the door. Make a lot of racket and no reason to latch them again till we move.
