Camera Adjustment

Met with Engineer and technician at Zone Defense. Examined our camera and the Monaco housing and right away knew the problem. OEM installed the camer at the highest point on the rear cap, just where the roof extends out, OVER the camera, thus the camera is pointed almost straight down. I now must cover 3x5 inch hole with sea board then mount adjusable bracket and camera. They gave me the bracket package (no charge). The engineer said that no matter how they instruct the OEM's, sometimes the just march to thier own beat. Disturbing OEM did not test system or just blew it off. They also said Alliance in Wildwood Fl. has fixed several MH's with this problem. By coincedence, we will be at Alliance for other work the first of March.

Great. I'm happy it's getting fixed. I'm not sure why people want to watch their toad instead of cars behind them.
Good luck.

I took my camera out of the Monaco supplied housing and mounted it to the back of the same housing. Then I could use the camera manufacturers adjustments to aim it higher.

38Special I don't understand what you did can you post pictures? After you changed it around is the area still water proofed? Maybe I need better instructions. Why didn't the OEM do that? I guess when they might have tested the camera they didn't have a toad. deSanford

This was one of the first modifications I made on our 08 Endeavor 40SKQ. The camera would look at the hitch and not very far back. As mentioned it is mounted in a place that will not allow it to look back far enough. I took the mount down, rebuilt it, and opened up the housing to allow it to see back as far as I want now. It was not difficult and it sounds like you have a resolution with new brackets. There is a mechanical mount as well as the electric tilt but the mechanical mount would not allow enough up. It was truly a bit dangerous changing lanes. With the proper view it is like having a rear view mirror again.

The second mod was to make the monitor in the dash removable so it can be placed along the top edge of the dash via a Ram mount and Velcro. Having to look down to see the monitor was not safe. It is now perfectly aimed and just above the instrument panel level. Of course there is a hole in the radio area when the monitor is out but who cares. When parked I tuck the monitor back in place.

The picture I have on file is not very good, but will post it. I did re-waterfroof to original housing with a siliconed plastic cap from the inside. After I did this, I found where Monaco moulded a better piece of plastic for the camera. But, I would have had to have it painted, and my project was complete! You may search for that, sorry I don't recall where I saw it.

The camera's present position is now going up the ladder to see who will pay for the fix. deSanford PS my unit has NO up and down control. I told the service rep that even if I didn't have the tow vehicle attached I would be looking down only a couple of feet behind the MH. What good is that? (unless someone was ridding my b_tt).

camera adjustment

Fixed the problem yesterday, works great. Used a combination of ideas from this forum, using star board and the same attached molding on the rear cap. Easy fix once WE figured it out. Still so disappointed with OEM.
