Carefree Fiesta Awning - No Tension

Hi guys!

I'm back and this time it's the patio awning This is a 2000 Diplomat and it appears to have a Carefree Fiesta awning.

I had it out, and it was a little windy, nothing bad or worth retracting it for. But after that it would not roll up and you have to grab a ladder and manually roll it up. So I'd like to fix it.

Are there any common issues? I have a hard time believing that little wind snapped a spring. I'm going to go out and look at how a person actually removes a large awning.....wish me luck!!

PS>It is a BN3N4 - I'm guessing that means Fiesta?

OK, I pulled the cap off at the most forward end of the awning (outside front door) and found a rusty spring that had broke. So, now I'm trying to get the part number for a new spring.......

The awning measures +/- 17.5 feet. According the parts listing, I need the right hand spring that goes from 8' to 18'

The problem is that there are 2 notes to determine the part number;

(4) For springs used with a utility slot roller tune add a U at the end of the part number
(5) Color BLK=Black WHT = White

The color of the spring is rust!!!

How do I determine the part number?

Bob-

This:
https://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/d...rLocations.pdf
Then put the serial number in the box on this Web page:
https://www.e-carefree.com/ecarefree...vletController

Some Carefree awnings can be converted to crank operation. I did that for our coach's awning. No springs to break any more. Link to the Pioneer conversion kit is here.

I found the Carefree folks quite helpful when I called then to confirm the part numbers I tracked down via the Web.

I replaced the two slide toppers, with a friend and two ladders. That may be how you want to handle your awning repair.

Thanks for the reply!!

I think I'll stick with the spring (for now). If I were going to update the awning I would rather try and do a power awning or something like that (much more modern).

As it turns out, the spring comes with the end cap. This is why they want to know what the color code is. So in that fashion, because mine is white, it should be;

R00925WHT-A

I don't know about the -A suffix but there are no listings for the -U so my guess is that, by the process of elimination/availability, it must be that one.

We replaced both our awning springs last year. It was easy.
