Personally; I don't worry about opening during travel, each door has 2 latches. I just don't want anyone in them that has no business being there. I have lawn chairs, gas grill, folding aluminun tables, tools, extension cords including a $75 shore cord, fishing equipment, various chassis liquids, hoses fresh and waste, ....things I wish to keep.

Keep them locked unless I'm in camp. I have a cooler in one bay so It's best to have easy access.

I carry a LOT of stuff in my cargo bays that I would hate to lose. I keep them locked all the time unless I'm outside doing something that requires me to be going in and out of them. JMHO

Depends where we are at. We spent last winter in a National Wildlife Refuge Volunteer campground with no public access. I didn't lock my entrance door let alone the storage doors. Now we are volunteering at a state park in Oregon so everything gets locked just in case. However, it strikes me that theft here would be unlikely. We see a lot of visitors with Class B or small Class C rigs who drive them every day. They leave behind hoses, power cords, grills, chairs etc. Never heard of anything going missing.

I'm just a bit curious here. Several of you have stated that you don't leave anything of much value in the cargo holds. Where in the heck do you put stuff then? I don't want any of the stuff that I would keep in the bays inside of the coach. There is no room there for stuff. Maybe it's just a difference of opinion of what is valuable.

In 15 years I never had a customer complain about someone breaking into the storage compartment. I had several who had the main door torn open. (all of these were while in a storage yard.) I lock all mine except two doors. This is the ones I open at each overnight stop.

For being new to the RV lifestyle I will keep mine locked for safety reasons but I don't think that anybody will get even close to my camp Now my question is do you think is ok to tell people if you lock your stuff or not.
Just saying.

Got a kick out of that .... !!
My bays get the lock it up if I really want to keep it, treatment. Unwritten rule with us is that wife's stuff is upstairs inside the bus. My stuff is in the bays, and I keep them locked because wife cleans house upstairs and tires to squeeze her stuff in my bays. However my stuff sometimes gets tossed out to make more room. It has happened!
In RV parlance it is called "space wars".

Locked - but did you know that almost all Monaco's, Holiday Rambler's and Beaver's have the same key for all cargo bay doors Try it out - you may be surprised.
If anyone with the same key as mine decides that they need my stuff in my cargo bay more than I do - then bless their cotton socks.
If this comes as a big surprise to you and if that worries you, there are companies out there that will sell you new locks. Come to the Monaco gathering in Quartzsite next January and I will personally show you a company in "the big tent" that does nothing but that.

Yeah, but then you lose your keys and everybody in the campground gives you that "big dummy" look

Locks only keep honest people honest.
That being said we lock all the doors.

I've already made my comment but your quote is something my dad always said. He spent his life in the " top secrete security business". They had walls, tables and doors with music in them - devices of every kind imaginable.
He also said the average thief is lazy. An unlocked door is much more to their liking. The more sophisticated the security - the more sophisticated the thief. The ones that would steal from an RV are probably the laziest of all. Even a simple lock would hopefully deter them.

Man!! Now I am going to have to search for the Key that locks those compartments.
I last locked them in 2004 when it was in the body shop for 10 days.
They are all full of stuff I may or may not need while Full Time. I may not know if anything is missing until I need it. When I do need something out of them, it may take a couple days to find it. Or I give up after a day and go buy another one. Then I will find the one I was looking for a month or so later.
