CB Radios

Do you have a CB radio and do you use it or monitor it while traveling?

Other then the weather channel/advisories that I pick up the CB is pretty much useless.

I was stuck in traffic back in Nov 26th, bumper to bumper stop and go, fast then slow. Came up over a hill and there was a state trooper barreling down the side of the road toward me with his lights on trying to warn people. Flipped on my hazards and slammed on the brakes. Traffic was at a stand still. I got on the CB trying to figure out what was going on and there was nobody on it.

A trucker came up beside me at one point and gave me a thumbs up, I think it was because I reacted so quickly and turned on my flashers.

Looks good though with all the other gadgets.

Not since the very early 70's.

Here is a link on a discussion about it.

I have not had a CB in the rig since before 2000. It is pretty useless now. I have a amateur radio operators license now and use that and FRS/GMRS when on the road to communicate with a group.

Break one nine for the sugar bear. How's it looking over your shoulder back to mile marker 42? Have you seen any picture takers? Over. I'd say unfortunately, Jim J's assessment is quite accurate. I have one. Man back in the day, we had a lot of fun with them. Copy?

I finally removed mine after many years. Everything you need is available on the phone. But they were fun for awhile:-)

There was a CB radio in our 2002 Windsor when we bought it. It's totally enclosed in the handset/microphone, and I don't even know how to use it. I can get it to weather broadcasts, but no CB!

When we bought our rig it had the Cobra hand held, didn't work so I replaced thought it would be nice to have. Installed new but it didn't pick up any decent signal. Did some research and bought a good CB antenna and bought a tuner to adjust the antenna. Spent hours trying to improve the signal. Still no luck. Wish I could get all my $$ and time back.

When I bought my coach the prior owner took the cb out but left the antennae and power wires. I bought the exact replacement like he had. On a handful of occasions I have heard some people talking. I have not had a conversation and even worse I haven’t been able to get a radio check no matter where I have been. I bought a handheld cb which seems a lot better, but haven’t had a chance to try it out on a trip.

Reading up on cbs, the antennae and how it’s mounted is very important.

About the only time I use my CB is when we are caravanning with another couple. I have monitored traffic conditions when there's a slowdown but it's not much help.

I bought a nice unit and new antenna (Firestick made in the USA) and spent a bunch of time tuning it.... And have discovered that I've got MAYBE a 2 mile range - which is terrible! - and there just doesn't seem to be anyone on them anyway.

Not even the weather is worth the effort, I removed it when doing some other work and haven't bothered to try putting it back.

Spent time and money trying to get CB working, gave up and now use it for weather broadcast only. Not sure what changed from the old days.
