Chassis Batteries Draining with 50AMP pwr

After sitting in CG hooked up to 50AMP for 2 weeks I couldnt start the coach. Tried to use "boost" with no luck. I was able to start the generator and start the coach after running Gen for 15-20mins.
How should I troubleshoot?

I would be looking for your BIRD to be defective, sounds like it is not engaging to charge the chassis batteries when plugged in. Search BIRD on this forum to find where yours might be located. I just replaced mine and found anew one on eBay for $169. Randy

Or, buy a standalone trickle charger and plug it in when you are at a campground.

BTW, the likely culprit is the Isolator Relay (solenoid).

There are 2 different systems used by Monaco in your year. IRD and BIRD system.
IRD allows your engine alternator to charge your chassis and house batteries while driving by closing the big boy solenoid between the house and chassis batteries. It does not charge the chassis batteries while plugged into shore power. Therefore a trick-L charger or echo charger should be installed.
If you have s BIRD system then the engine alternator charges your chassis and house batteries while driving and also charges your chassis and house batteries while plugged into shore power via your inverter. Weather driving or on shore power this is accomplished by the BIRD closing the big boy solenoid.
First determine what system you have then a fix can be done.
Is this a new rig to you, or is this a new problem?

On my coach I have a battery minder for the chassis battery, it could be bad. Attached is a picture and parts list of the #2 rear electrical bay that has a picture of the minder #3.

The coach battery itself could be bad, I had mine fail ~3 years ago, it was 10 years old. My wife was driving from TN to Michigan when I got the call, she was able to use battery boost to start coach and was able to drive it the rest of the way. You can take your battery and have it load tested.

If your coach batteries are weak starting the generator probably gave you enough charge to start the coach.

Hi James
Your part#7 is the BIRD. bi-directional insulator relay Delay. This controls the big boy solenoid. The battery maintain is an isolator between the 2 banks.

I had the exact same problem, called the manufacturer of the Bird system and asked for tech support. A very helpful tech support employee walked me thru troubleshooting steps with an ohm meter and determined that the Bird was bad. Bought a new one directly from them, easy install and both house and chassis batteries now charge properly on shore power.

My BIRD went bad and it also controls the bat boost so it wouldn't work either. That relay was replaced not so long ago. When I bought the RV it was suggested I own a small charger with multiple settings.

That would be very unusual ... the boost circuit is normally an independent pick circuit but does utilize the same Isolator Relay that the BIRD uses. In other words, the same relay that ties the batteries together can be picked by 2 sources ... the BIRD and the boost switch.

House Battery

We had the same problem - Monaco does not charge start battery with 50 amp power - I bought an Echo charger - easy to hook up and keeps everything charged.
